Valentine's Surprise

The night of Monday, February 13th I was enjoying another great night of "The Bachelor" with my mom, Riley, Belle and Lisa while Mitch was home playing Xbox with Reed. He kept texting me, asking when I was going to be home. I left after Bachelor and walked into the house to see all the doors closed.  I opened the bedroom door (not really sure what to expect ;) and saw this little guy...!!!

My heart pretty much melted, I was SO excited! But I had no idea how much my life was going to change from that point on.  We had talked about getting a puppy especially for me when Mitch works graveyards, but we decided we couldn't afford it.  So it was a big surprise to come home to this early V-day bundle of joy we quickly named Diesel. :)

We let him sleep in our bed that night...and the next.. and the next.  I couldn't stop staring at him.  He was so cute and cuddly and I just wanted to play with him. The first night I got up I think three times to let him outside to pee. I knew this was not going to be able to continue.. I needed my sleep! We got a kennel to put him in during the night.  He whined and barked the first few nights (remember we live in a small 2 bedroom apartment) so I finally figured out that if we put him in the closet in the spare bedroom, shut the doors and put a load of laundry in the washer, and maybe start the dishwasher, we could hardly hear him! Needless to say we all are sleeping much better lately. With the exception that we don't sleep in past 8 anymore.

Pretty much I feel like I have a baby on my hands here. Only I imagine a puppy is a little more difficult.  He's struggling with the potty training.  It's very frustrating.  I've been tempted to go buy him some diapers... but I didn't want him to rely on them, or be embarrassed, and we are poor and would probably have to use cloth diapers. HA yea right.  But he pees a TON and OFTEN.  He will do it right in front of us too.. Like the one time we were playing with him on the bed and he peed. So I ripped the sheets off and threw them in the washer.  As I was transferring them from the washer to the dryer, I saw my 1 month old iphone sitting in the bottom of the washer. I cried. Mitch wasn't as mad as I expected, he pointed out that Diesel was free so this would take place of what he would have cost. Made me feel a little better.

This puppy has sharp teeth! He is very playful and likes to bite-a lot. And pee A LOT and OFTEN.

Oh and he is a black lab/german shepherd mix.
He won't be able to fit under the couch much longer but he loves it under there! He is a lot of work but it's so worth it.  I didn't know I could love an animal so much. He's like a child to me.  I miss him when I'm at work (especially when I am making tuna fish at the golf course, it smells like his breath) and I love it when I come home and he runs to me.  He is growing so fast and I can't wait to take him running with me!
I love him so much!!

The next morning for Valentines Day I made stuffed strawberry french toast.  Mitch sent me flowers at work.  And we enjoyed the rest of the night with our "new baby". As much as I wanted to see "The Vow", I actually planned on making dinner and getting a red box because I didn't want to deal with the crowds. And it was perfect just to relax on the couch in sweats with my boys.

I had a picture of Mitch and Diesel but it's on my iphone.. sitting in a bowl of rice.
